چکیده

The detection of the wakes moving ships in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery requires presence wake signatures, which are sufficiently distinctive from ocean background. Various components exist, constitute SAR signatures ship wakes. For successful detection, contrast between detectable and background is crucial. detectability those affected by a number parameters, represent image acquisition settings, environmental conditions or properties including voyage information. In this study dependency individual to these parameters characterized. each component model built, takes influence incidence angle, polarization, wind speed, direction, sea state (significant wave height, wavelength, direction), vessel’s velocity, course over ground length into account. presented models based on regression classification using Support Vector Machines dataset manually labelled TerraSAR?X samples. considered are: near?hull turbulences, turbulent wakes, Kelvin arms, wake’s transverse waves, divergent V?narrow ship?generated internal waves. statements derived about mainly good agreement with previous research, but also some new assumptions provided. most expressive influencing parameter movement velocity vessels, as all more faster vessels move.

Wake Component Detection in X-Band SAR Images for Ship Heading and Velocity Estimation

A new algorithm for ship wake detection is developed with the aim of ship heading and velocity estimation. It exploits the Radon transform and utilizes merit indexes in the intensity domain to validate the detected linear features as real components of the ship wake. Finally, ship velocity is estimated by state-of-the-art techniques of azimuth shift and Kelvin arm wavelength. The algorithm is a...

SAR Imaging of Ship Wakes and Inverse Ship Wake Problem

Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images of sea surface often reveal ship wakes, which appear in a form of bright and dark streaks. It is believed that some of them pertain to the ship generated Kelvin wave system and some to the ship turbulent wake (Reed et al., 1990). The streaks in SAR images are sufficiently narrow to consider them as straight segments. Assuming that the location and ...
